This publication is a summary of a study conducted by the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine. It was developed specifically for substance abuse treatment providers and describes the crucial role that providers can and should play in their interaction with researchers and care givers at the community level to strengthen our efforts to reduce the impact of drug abuse and addiction in our society and to improve the quality of life of our citizens.
